In the mid-21st century, a secret complex of subterranean bunkers was created as a response to impending Armageddon events. They were built to save humanity from war, disease and toxic air. It was only a matter of time before the surface of Earth would be uninhabitable and space exploration was not an option. The underground complex could house ten-thousand people. Inside, energy could be harnessed from geo-thermal caches. Food could be produced in greenhouses with artificial light. Water could be pumped in from underground aquifers. It was self-sustaining.
